Bee Bot Maze

Fri, Jul 4th, 2025

We hope all the students have a restful and enjoyable mid-year break. We look forward to building on the confidence, persistence and skills of each student as they return for Term 3.

This week in Year 4 we used directional language to get our Bee Bots through a maze the students created. The students had to trial and error until they successfully got their Bee Bot through.

A huge round of applause for our public speaking stars: Ean, Charlie O, Asha, Winter, Hannah and Ella! Your clear, confident delivery, excellent eye contact, engaging presence, and courage to stand before an audience truly amazed us. You’ve set the bar high and inspired everyone for next year. Congratulations on a fantastic achievement! Goodluck to Charlie O and Hannah as they will be attending the Tweed Regional Public Speaking Competition.

Can you please remind your child to return their homework folders on a Friday? Your child now has the opportunity to take readers home if they have a homework folder to help them with their decoding skills and fluency. Homework is detailed in the what's on this week tab.

Reminder: On Monday of Week 2 is our whole school Yandindhi Retreat Day. This years theme is the Year of Hope. Students will participate in a number of activities during the day and we will be joined by Wildfire the Lismore Diocese Catholic Band.

If you would like your child to enrol in the sacramental program, please hand your confirmation enrolment form into the parish during this weekend’s mass. Saturday night the 5th at 5 pm or Sunday at 9 am the 6th.

Premier's Reading Challenge - Please look at the information in the parental resource tab.

Homework: We had 18 students return their homework folders at the end of the term. We will continue to offer Maths revision sheets, Mr Holmes and Miss Sharp have Spelling revision for their groups, we have also added a short text for comprehension purposes for students keen to sharpen these skills, plus home readers are available to use. Don’t forget the school library is a valuable resource for all your reading needs.

The spelling words are located in the parent resource tab below.

Miss Sharp - Part A Lesson 82-89 Spelling Words

Mr Holmes - Part A Lesson  70-74 Spelling Words

Mrs Faga/Mrs Fitz - Part B Lesson 46-50 Spelling Words

Each day we are completing times tables ninjas. Once students can successfully answer more than 30 multiplication fact questions in 2 minutes for a week with greater than 90% accuracy they can try to get their times table medallion. Here is the link for further practice - https://timestables.ninja/

Upcoming Learning

In Week 1, our new Mathematics unit develops the big idea that what needs to be measured determines the unit of measurement. In this 2-week unit, students are provided opportunities to: Compare and describe features of three-dimensional objects by making and exploring models, sketches and diagrams. They will also construct and draw models from given top, front and side views, using squared and isometric paper. The unit concludes by using formal units (litres and millilitres) to measure capacity and using scaled instruments to measure and compare capacities.

In Week 2, students will be learning about the textual concept of ‘characterisation’ and the supporting concept of ‘imagery, symbol and connotation’. Through a close study of the text The Callers by Kiah Thomas, students will learn about characterisation as the qualities attributed to imagined characters, including their personality and emotional attributes. Students will examine excerpts from the text that explore the author’s purpose in the development of characters and the various aspects of characterisation, such as appearance, actions, words and thoughts. Students will create written texts for imaginative purposes and enhance their understanding of the textual concepts. They will apply their understanding of characterisation to develop and present their character in the final part of the unit.
