Gab C Farewell
Fri, Nov 29th, 2024
Tuesday was Gab Cs final day at St James as she is spending some time for the remainder of the year in South Africa with her family. We had a farewell party with treats and dancing, and a guard of honour to send her off as unfortunately she will miss some big final moments with her friends and peers. We all wish Gab C the best and are looking forward to hearing about her adventures.
Students will participate in a Beach/Water Safety Program at Greenmount Beach this week. This involves all Year 4, Year 5, and Year 6 students travelling to the beach on Monday and Friday in weeks 8 & 9. The students will be taken through beach safety talks (flags, signs they will see, how to identify rips, what to do if they get in trouble, and simple beach rules), and participate in beach games. They will participate in structured water activities in the shallow water between the flags. The program is part of the PDHPE curriculum and is compulsory for all students at St James Primary. All information is included in the Compass Notification. Dates: Monday 2/12, Friday 6/12, Monday 9/12 and Friday 13/12.
We need a parent helper for Friday 6th December and Monday 9th December. Thanks to Tara Foster, Peter Neville and Melinda Petrie for assisting on Monday 2nd Dec and Rick Aleman and Daniel Coffee for assisting on Friday 6th Dec. (Need another helper for Friday)
Headspace - Transition to High School On Wednesday, December 11th, Headspace will visit our Year 6 students to facilitate a discussion aimed at supporting our current Year 6 transition to high school.
The session will last for 45 minutes and will begin with an engaging, age-appropriate interactive PowerPoint quiz focused on mental health. Following this, the conversation will shift to the transition to high school, covering topics such as local schools, perceptions of high school, differences between primary and secondary education, classroom dynamics, and friendship changes.
Students will participate in breakout groups to discuss their concerns and explore self-care strategies. The session will conclude with an interactive activity centred on identifying 'our happy place' to help ease any anxieties.
The Essential Assessment Parent Portal is open for Unit 36.
