Project Save Hands

Fridays have gotten hands-on at St James with our exciting new initiative, Project Safe Hands! 🌿

In Week 1, our Year 2 students kicked things off by exploring "Safety on Country" in honor of NAIDOC Week. They learned how Indigenous elders traditionally used natural resources from the land to treat illnesses, rashes, and injuries. To bring their learning to life, students had a blast crafting their own "bush medicine"—muddling native plants with water to discover their wonderful aromas, soapy textures, and vibrant colors!

In Week 2, we have the privilage of having Matt Phillis visit to teach us about "Safety in the community". This interactive experience introduces Year 2 children to their local police as friendly, trustworthy helpers who work hard to keep everyone safe. Through looking at the police uniform, exploring emergency vehicles, and discussing simple safety rules, students will understand that officers are safe adults they can always turn to when lost or in need of help in the community.
