The Year 4 Update: From Rulers to Rituals

During the week, Mr Stubbs came to Year 4 to speak about the importance of the sky in Indigenous culture. We are learning to investigate, interpret, and respectfully communicate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Knowledges of the night sky, recognising their use of astronomical observation. We explored ‘The Emu In The Sky’, recognising that the emu is at its highest in the sky in May/June. This tells us the season for gathering emu eggs is about to begin." Mr Stubbs related the story to his own family and explained how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples used the stars in their everyday life.
