In our Year 2 classroom this week, the students have been enthusiastically engaging with hands-on mathematics activities to develop their understanding of number concepts. Using Multibase Arithmetic Blocks (MAB), the students have been exploring various strategies for combining and separating quantities, focusing on the crucial skill of regrouping. Through collaborative learning experiences, the children work together in small groups, sharing ideas and problem-solving techniques as they manipulate the concrete materials. This approach not only reinforces their grasp of place value but also encourages peer-to-peer learning and communication. As they represent different quantities using MAB, the students are building a strong foundation for more advanced mathematical operations and developing their ability to think flexibly about numbers.
