On Tuesday, Year 5 went to the Minjungbal Museum & Cultural Centre. Whilst we were there we learnt about some local Aboriginal history. I (Maggie) learnt about Margaret Kay who was responsible for maintaining the Bora Ground, previously used for initiation ceremonies near the cultural centre. In 1961 she obtained approval from the Tweed Shire Council for its preservation as a historic site, at a time when the conservation of places of Aboriginal cultural significance was uncommon. MARGARET became caretaker of the Bora Ground.
My (Spencer) favourite part was the bush walk where Rob showed us all of the historic and significant sites around the area including the Bora Ring. We even saw some Native bees. Did you know that native bees do not sting and their honey is okay to eat?
